Strategic adviser, change architect and accelerator

John is a Managing Partner at April Strategy. With more than 20 years' experience in strategy co-development, operating model design and change acceleration, he combines conceptual and concrete thinking, imaginative creativity and analytical rigour, and personal drive and empathy to create momentum for change.

A prize-winning behavioural scientist by background who graduated from the University of Leeds, he started his career in the UK Civil Service Fast Stream, advising government ministers on policy, implementation and speechwriting. He moved on to build and manage leading-edge consultancies, joining April Strategy in 2007.

He enjoys strategic storytelling and management, helping to build engagement across teams to generate motivation and create long-lasting change. He currently teaches customer centricity and human-centred design on executive education programmes at Warwick, King’s College, and Henley business schools.

John has used his strategic and operational expertise in the voluntary sector, including as former Chair of his local mental health charity Mind in Bradford, a cause which remains close to his heart and his fundraising cycle rides. He lives in Yorkshire with his family, where he enjoys exploring the Dales, and disappears from time to time on mountain adventures and motor racing circuits, where he can be found spectating, competing and occasionally crashing.
